Mother-Daughter Conflict.
Welcome back to my "once in a while" blog. Lol... Today, I shall speak about the Mother-daughter relationship. Guys do you know that mothers and daughters have the biggest arguments in the family unit? Do u know that while arguments between mothers and sons occur on average 4days & last 6mins, mothers and daughters "fight" happens every two and half days & go on for 15mins? (I bet y'all didn't know that. *winks*)
REASONS FOR MOTHER-DAUGHTER CONFLICT
1. ADOLESCENT INDEPENDENCE :
Daughters grow up with all their lives revolving around their mothers. She tells her what to eat, how to keep clean, where to go, and possibly how to and not to behave in front of a boy. When they grow into teenagehood, they start to have little secrets and find it easier speaking to her friends instead of Mummy. Mummy on the other hand feels left out n often fight to be part of her daughter's life. If not properly handled, daughters could grow up describing Mummy as "troublesome".
2. MOTHER'S LIFESTYLE :
In this phase, the daughter is grown and needs to fashion a life for herself. Human development comes with the psychological task of becoming one's person. At this stage, the adult daughter reduces her dependency on parents for love, support, care, direction, security....... At this level, mothers engage in a quest of making sure to lead a particular lifestyle. Some don't want them to make the same mistake(s) they made. however, resulting in "Do-as-I-say".
3. CORRECTION & CRITICISM :
Having witnessed d stages of growth and Independence of their daughters, mothers now feel powerless over their girls. Because mothers will always want to offer advice or help, they do that via criticism. They believe there are no other ways because they are no longer needed. The daughter on d other hand overreacts to what she hears as criticisms because she still sees Mummy as the all-powerful.
The mother-daughter relationship is the most significant and greatly neglected aspect of family life. A well-cultured lady is a well-cultured society and a well-cultured society results in a well-cultured world.
